How it Works

The Atom can pair with your iOS device via Bluetooth - allowing you to view live readings, configure thresholds, transfer stored data to the cloud, and view historical data. Not only that - you can also pair an Atom with your Seeker or Tensor, as a hub for many Atoms to monitor multiple zones, and to relay stored environmental data to PQ Canvass, allowing long-term tracking and instant email/SMS alerts.

Key Environmental Factors and Their Impact on PQ
temperature

Temperature

  • High temperatures increase conductor resistance, cause transformer overheating, and accelerate insulation degradation, leading to voltage sags and failures.
  • Low temperatures make materials brittle, increasing failure rates in power lines and contributing to insulation breakdown.
  • Rapid temperature fluctuations cause expansion/contraction stress, loosening electrical connections.

Atmospheric Pressure

  • Dielectric strength varies with air pressure; low pressure reduces voltage withstand ability and increases the likelihood of flashover.
  • Affects cooling efficiency, impacting insulation performance.
  • Rapid drops in pressure often precede storms, which bring disturbances like swells and interruptions.
  • In equipment enclosures, positive or negative pressure conditions can reveal HVAC or ventilation issues.

humidity

Humidity

  • High humidity can cause condensation on insulators, leading to leakage currents, faults, and insulation flashovers.
  • Dust or salt combined with humidity reduces insulator resistance, increasing failure risks.
  • Low humidity can cause static discharge issues, affecting sensitive electronics.

Solar Flux

  • Fluctuations in solar irradiance cause voltage flicker and instability in high-penetration networks
  • High solar exposure increases thermal stress on transformers and switchgear, reducing efficiency.
  • Geomagnetic storms from solar activity induce currents in power lines, leading to voltage variations and transformer heating.
